Cookies

Even if I do manage my mind, my body feels when I'm angry and reacts. So, today I decided to fight anger by baking. I opened my grandma's notebook at the very first page: the simplest dry raisins cookies, risk-free- you cannot fail in such a simple recipe. Here they are, after a short wile, in my sunny (oh, yes! we have sun today) kitchen. I cannot send the nice smell or the real taste, but it was a nice break, and my grandma was with me. When they got ready, I even had a taster, because Sorin is at home these days.
You can also see my recently started collection of tin coloured boxes from Europe- silly, I know. If it's not too much to ask, maybe some day you can send me a box from the Spain- just the box. :)
You are right, simple things are soothing, sometimes. Have a cookie with me!

An old heart in a new body

She seems to be adapting easier than I thought.

My father-in-law's WW2 binoculars and calculating machine.

My grandpa's nicest icon.

Old watercolours reproductions that belonged to my mother-in-law.

My grandma's samovar and my great-grandfather book, printed in 1900.

My great-grandmother painting.
We're not living in a museum, everything else is new. But these are part of us and we could/would not be here without them.

Couples

As I was in no mood to teach, I gave my 8th graders a test (I am a bit ashamed of myself for that), so I could spend two hours watching a couple of very noisy jaybirds courting each other in the trees by the school. Loud lovers! They will have the same wedding anniversary as we do. :)

Industrial Dawn

Lonely dawn moments in the cold morning of a big town. There are people there, everywhere, but they are so far apart, each one deep in his/her work, hurry, travel, thoughts. Even the sunlight is cold. It brings feverish activity, but not as much hope as it would bring in a quieter, wilder place, over a forest, over the sea...
See the House of People in the background, beyond the twin furnaces?

Fly high!

The balloon was in my park this afternoon. It was just for advertisement, but I'd like to turn it into a wish: may you all win all the contests you enroll into, conquer all the obstacles, fly as high as your dreams, plans and imagination can take you. "Ilusión", right? I like the word. The balloon is ready to go, the flame is lit. Fly!

Dance in the park

This is a scene from a senior citizens nigh in the park. Each week-end night this summer there were shows or music in this small performance area, and this night was for them. Maybe it looks a bit ridiculous, but it was touching to see them dance (this was just the beginning, the most daring couples! You should have seen them later!) and enjoy themselves like that, considering they don't have an easy life here. I did not expect seeing anyone that age doing anything else than complaining. But they did, and I don't know if I would have had the courage to dance in front of all that people. The band was not bad, there was a singer too, and the music must have been just right for them: The Beatles, "Strangers in the Night" and such things. Good for them!

Getting Busy

Everyone is getting busy these days: growing, blooming, searching for love or just watching the others do so. Here are some of them.

An urban sun.

"Don't be shy, darling, let's build a nest." He has straws in his beak, see?

Watching the birds.
