Los Noc-turnos

This is the booklet the Town Hall has created to launch a campaign to prevent young people from driving after drinking.
The message is based on the idea of making "turns" to drive among the friends, so that there is alwyas one whose turn is not to drink and to drive.
The spot plays with the word: nocturnos, meaning somebody or something related to night. If you split the word you have Noc: night and turnos, turns.
It's not a bad idea. One of the major problems with young people nowadays is the amount of alcohol they drink at the week-end. Heavy drinking is already a problem in itself but if it goes together with driving, it can become a tragedy.
It means not only family suffering but society expense. Many of these young people who have accidents get on wheel-chairs forever, and this is something our society can't afford.
It's true we always celebrate events with a toast, but a certain limit should be applied for drivers.
May this campaign be successful, here and everywhere.

On iron

The Iron Museum in Rouen is a real walk into history. All kind of tools and topics can be seen there. Nothing escapes the collection. it's a gorgeous festival of art and decoration. From the most commons tools for the kitchen to the complex mechanism of lockets. The beautiful keys, the grills that take you in a romantic travel into lovers' conversations and mysterious nunneries.
But we got particularly interested in these great publicity works, the ancestors of our neon advertisements. The beginning of advertising over our heads in the most flourished decoration, here they are

Her Majesty, the Culture

This is the poster promoting a cultural pro-reading project called: "Writers on the Royal Route". It will take place between May 9th and May 15th, on the occasion of th 100th anniversary of the foundation of the Romanian Writers' Society.
The project's main activity is carried on by 45 of the best writers and poets in our country, winners of international literature prizes. They will travel by the Royal train, built in 1927, starting from Bucharest, to 5 other towns in the country: Iasi, Suceava, Alba Iulia, Sibiu, Medias, performing reading sessions and donating books, in order to establish a reading corner in those train stations. After that, a DVD, a book and other materials with their readings will be made and distributed to libraries.
The project team hopes to have the same kind of tour next year, in the capitals of the neighbouring countries.

State publicity

The objective of state publicity campaigns is either inform or make citizens change their behaviour.
Our streets get a peculiar visit every year. Buses especially decorated to give young people information about possibilities to go on studying after Secondary School. Mainly vocational studies.
This one was parked opposite Ssanto Tomás Monastery, near the Arts School. And the aim is to provide teenagers with information about art. Not only painting or sculpture, but also glass, dance, theatre.
Even the bus has an artistic and beautiful design: Inform Arte. Inform from Informar and Arte is art. The result is: Informarte, which means: Get information.
Duality. Isn't it a good idea?

Negative 1

Since I'm in a rather negative frame of mind tonight, here are two examples on that line. This one I like.
It has a story that I'm going to make short: there are sometimes earthquakes in Bucharest and this is an everlasting worry for its inhabitants. The last major one was in 1977. One thousand people died then, a few buildings crushed and many of the old ones were weakened.
Some of those buildings were rehabilitated, some are still waiting for it, but publicity is a "must" everywhere, especially in a very central area, like the Roman Square, even if it means an unnecessary burden for an already fragile block of flats.
A daring and unconventional urban artist tried to ask :"What would happen if...?"

A variation

Publicity surrounds us everywhere. Not just the trade spots to make us buy , but the big official posters .
This one was created by the Culture Section in the Town Hall in order to announce Gregorian Chant Days .

Very simple, just a replica of a page from one of those old music books where Gregorian chant was written. Real jewels not only because of the music but because of the materials , the drawing and the calligraphy.
A very short line about with the days and the place. So little and so much to say.

A more complex one to make citizens aware of the use of yellow bins to recycle only plastic, cans and tetrabriks. An in the middle, a big circle marked SI.
It's more elaborated than the other one. Why?

Because it is more urgent? Because it is aimed to people who need more input? Because it is more important? Because the council is more interested in environment than in leisure activities?
I don't know and who can?
