These brooches are the result of warm moments at home. I made them to wear on Halloween.
It was a funny task.

a new pupil

In a global school one expects to meet all kind of pupils: different clothes, different languages, different colours, different interests ( most the times very little interest) and so on. But this one is new for us, patiently waiting for an opportunity to enter.

Curious about what surrounds him or her.

Interested in whoever comes closer.

Alert and ready. I'd like these qualities for the ones already inside.

Under the rain

The photo looks brighter than it really was because it's edited, we had a rainy dark day. This is part of what I see from my balcony. A deserted resting place under a wet bush, a rusty vine and a last dying rose. A few years ago, there was an apple-tree there too. By this time, it was full of small yellow apples. I have no idea how they tasted. It made me very sad to see nobody picked them and they slowly rotted, I imagined how useless it felt. Still, it took the trouble to fructify year after year. I wonder why they cut it, it did no harm.

Santa Teresa's Day

I have not seen much of the celebrations today, instead I went to Madrid to see the exhibition about Miguel Hernández, a republican poet who died in prison after the Civil War. I consider it a better way to spend the day. Madrid was glorious, warm weather, sunny skies and people, people from every part of the world.
the only thing I saw concerning the patron's day a week ago, was the first parade of the Giants. Not much, but here it is.
enjoy it, children were afraid. do you have something similar?

Although there is no comparison with the situation in underdevelopped countries, the fight for drinkable water is always a challenge in today's societies.
When Sewage Treatment Plants are not able to cope with the amount of water from heavy storms, it falls down into reservoirs. Bad smell, grey colour and dead fish are the consequences of the lack of care. Constant care and full attention are required to protect life around us.

Water- Blog Action Day

An homage to your river and to ours, Adaja and Dambovita, to their waves that pass near us like moments of our life. They are "home" too.
And an old song: "Dambovita, apa dulce". It says: Dambovita, you sweet water, the one who tastes you will leave here no more.

Space Race

This was our Space Race activity today, a simple one, just to see them at work. We spent one hour building the "vehicles" and another one launching them, measuring, calculating (a bit of statistics and physics) and filling in worksheets. Tomorrow we will draw conclusions and announce the winners.
By the way, these are the kids for ATOM and this is my classroom this year.
I hope they had fun.

Book mysteries

We ended up with quite a collection of early 19th century old books after ranging all our families' possessions. Out of that array of topics, from Russian poetry, to logarithms tables, Latin dictionaries, encyclopedias, novels, a sexual education book (amazingly realistic for the early 1900's!), this one is the biggest mystery for me.
As you see, it's an English literature book, that I found very interesting to see because I never knew literature can be studied with graphics and plot diagrams.
But the mystery is this: it's underlined and annotated, but as far as we know nobody in both our families ever knew English. It was not often taught here around 1918- at all!
Who studied it so deeply? And why was the book kept for so long?
We will probably never know, as the book cannot tell us.

in our lives

Beyond the blinds, in a narrow corridor, a field mouse has built its nest.

There it is, a bit worried because of human presence. but feeling safe at home.

He, even dares to look at us with an odd stare. Menacing or menaced?

He walks from right to left along his street.

Feeling warm and protected, he looks like a baby. however, how little he knows about his future. But who knows?
